Last night I had another subject in mind to write about today, it was going to be about the Trump Timeline on Bill Moyer’s site. But things happen.
Instead it’s about combating those who insist that through some sort of twisted logic and continued hatred of all things Democratic, Left, Progressive, Obama or whatever, they feel the need to defend the actions of the KKK, Nazis and white supremacists’ actions in Charlottesville this past weekend.
I have a friend who is an independent contractor cameraman. He was in Charlottesville and was also a witness. There are some who twisted his words to defend the actions that led to the murder of Heather Heyer. Basically, both sides. I won’t go into the entire discussion, just my closing comment.
I pity you Bob. I pity you because whatever event in your past has moved you to the point of defending Nazis, the KKK and white supremacist. It's darkened your soul.
This isn't a matter of offering an intellectual defense or discussion. It's not a libertarian viewpoint you're defending. It's a disgusting vile history. The murdering of millions by the Nazis in WWII. The lynching of African Americans and their allies in this country.
If you truly believe these these things take off the filters. Let the world see what you have written. Don't hide it behind FB's Friends Only filter. Click on the globe and show the world who you are.
I'll defend(with my life if needed) my brothers and sisters of color from the bigots and racist. I'll defend my brothers and sisters of all religions for their right to worship as they believe. I'll defend my brothers and sisters of the LGBTQ community to live openly and free in our free society.
I know you consider yourself a student of history, let me recommend a fellow Tarheel for you to read, Kevin M. Kruse. Kruse is a Professor of History at Princeton University who did his undergraduate work at UNC.
I try. I truly do try. But they live in their enclaves far away from the reality of the positions they hold. Waiting in fear. Of what? I don’t think they really know. But they are afraid.

There was finally a response to my comment;
Tony… thanks for your thoughtful concern, and your helpful advice on who I should allow access to my Facebook page. But I am content to post articles, cartoons, and pictures for only my friends, instead of the general public.
One reason for sticking with friends is that there are unhinged people on the internet who are easily triggered. They write long, unwieldy missives which mischaracterize what I say for the purpose of tarring me as a Nazi sympathizer.
I hope you are well.
I responded;
There are no high roads here Bob. At some point you have to recognize what you're defending. Either you believe what you're defending or you're just billowing smoke.
The ACLU defended their right to say what they wanted to say via their right to march, but they don't defend what they say or the groups themselves. However, the ACLU has gone on record that they won't defend armed protesters from this point forward.
My apologies if my missives seem unwieldy to you. Dickishness is pithy. Nuance takes a few more words.
