I have been out of my bedroom for over a month. Wasps invaded my favourite space and chased me out. I set up a bed in my spare bedroom, but I missed my real bed. Once I got the pest guy in, we discovered that a rat had made a nest in the hot water tank cubby as well. It took a while before the wasps finally decided that Cantref Gwennedd was bad for their health and moved out...but they and the rat had left a helluva mess.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group gives Kossacks a safe place to check in, a daily diary where we can let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, earthquakes, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It also allows us to find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, earthquakes etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a Kosmail and ask to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I was reluctant to do much more than close up holes with steel wool and vacuum up the mess until I could get the outside hole plugged up. But I couldn’t reach it, even with a ladder. It was in an awkward spot. Finally, my friend’s brother came to visit her and I convinced him to deal with it. He’s a handyman by trade. He not only plugged the hole using expanding spray foam but went throught the house plugging any other holes we found...and we found a few. The spray is a one use thing. You can not save the contents for another use weeks later. The straw they provide to direct the foam clogs up and is impossible to clean out.
FINALLY...I could get into the room and begin a proper clean-up. I had to cut a hole in the panelling to get at the hole the rat was getting in through and closed it up with a piece of mesh and screwed down a bit of wood on top. I was lucky enough to think of using a cupboard door (complete with hinges) to cover the hole in the panelling I had to make. Now all I have to do to get in there is open the door.
I’ve spent the last three days cleaning and going through my closet. All my clothes got washed, dried and put back...a few found their way into a bag for goodwill. All the bedding on the shelf had to be washed as well. I found about 15 dead wasps amongst my clothes, but none in the bedding. But I’m also revelling in being able to sleep in my own bed again.
Praying for the safety of all those in the path of Harvey.
