On Saturday night I went to a small dinner party, and one of the other guests was...wait for it...Sen. Blanche Lincoln’s sister, Mary!!!
She told us, and this sounds right, that Blanche lost her third-term bid mostly because she was instrumental to the passage of Dodd-Frank, and was subsequently punished by the banking industry in Arkansas. She described her sister as a Blue Dog, which, as she said, and we all know, is considered centrist.
Man, I started feeling profoundly guilty about how I used to grumble about Blue Dog centrism! Thanks, Daily Kos, for turning me into such a DFH. 😀 Surely I am not alone when I say I would give ANYTHING for Blanche Lincoln to be President right now.
So this was me at the end of the evening:
“You can totally say no, but, um, I blog a lot on Daily Kos and was wondering if I could get a picture with you to share with the community..."
She was like, “Sure!" And she said she frequently reads Daily Kos and might even be a member. I remember making air quotes when I asked if she was just a “lurker”.
I only later learned that Mary (Lambert) herself is famous — she was the first EVER female director of a major studio horror movie, Pet Sematary (See title image above). She also directed many of the most influential music videos of all time, including the ones that made Madonna a superstar — Like a Virgin, Material Girl, and Like a Prayer, among others. In 2001, Like a Prayer was voted the second greatest music video of all time, after Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
In 2007, Mary directed this documentary about women in the Senate:
What about you?
What politicians did you used to grumble about that you would now give your right arm to be President?
VIRGINIA KOSSACKS!
