Kansas’s Kris Kobach just might be the hardest working dirtbag in the country. Although he has a full-time job as the Kansas secretary of state, he’s found the time in recent months to add a few more jobs to his resume:
- Co-chair of Donald Trump’s voter suppression committee
- Paid columnist at Breitbart
- Frequent mockable guest on cable talk shows
- And, of course, he’s running for governor of Kansas, to replace his buddy Sam Brownback
In between orders to appear for federal contempt of court charges, he’s managed to squeeze in another job this year: private attorney for a Utah-based gun accessories company Modular Evolution, which is being sued for patent infringement by Kansas-based B&T Industries. From the Wichita Eagle:
In a complaint filed in federal court, B&T Industries says Modular Evolution "has infringed and continues to infringe" on a bipod patent held by B&T Industries.
"Unless restrained, Defendant’s continued infringement of (the patent) will cause Plaintiff’s irreparable harm for which there is no adequate remedy at law," the complaint says.
Kobach filed an answer to the complaint on April 26. "Denied as to the allegation that Defendant has infringed on the patent," he wrote.
Why would Kris Kobach even take this case? The owners Kansas-based B&T are just as perplexed:
Kasey Beltz, an owner and operator of B&T Industries, said he didn’t know why Kobach is an attorney on the case.
“No idea,” Beltz said. “I found it quite fascinating that, one, he is a public official and he’s on our taxpayer tax roll and still practicing what I consider private practice – it threw me off.”
With everything else on his plate, why would he take this case? Especially considering the company bringing the lawsuit is right in his own sunflower-filled backyard. Doesn’t sound like anything a serious candidate for governor would do. And this isn’t the only gun accessories manufacturer he’s wrapped up with:
He has held an interest in another Kansas firearms accessories manufacturer – Minuteman Defense, an Overland Park-based maker of holsters, knife sheaths and other weapons-related products –since at least 2014.
Is there anything this guy can’t do? I mean, besides being a decent human being?
