One of the most annoying parts of white supremacy is that we’ve somehow turned the “crime” of calling a person racist to be actually worse than being racist. A recent example of this absurdity comes from Liberty, Missouri, where a man put up a “Slaves 4 Sale” sign outside his home—because he’s upset people called him a racist for flying the Confederate flag. FOX4KC reports:
People who live in the neighborhood near Liberty Plaza woke up to a sign advertising "Slaves 4 Sale" hanging over a Confederate battle flag at Richard Geisenheyner's home.
Geisneheyner says the sign is a reaction to being treated like a racist because he flies the flag in front of his home.
"If people actually believe that a Confederate flag stands for slavery, well, I might as well be just as stupid as they are,"said Geisenheyner, who has mixed-race grandchildren.
He says he flies the Confederate battle flag to make a political statement: "It is for people that are tired of the government telling them what to do and what to think. That is what a Southern rebel is."
I’m not sure why having mixed-race grandchildren is a relevant detail. Plenty of misogynists have mothers, wives, and other family members who are a member of the population they hate—but I guess it’s somehow seen as a valid exemption from accusations of racism.
At the end of the day, there is something sincerely wrong with someone who wants to put something else more offensive to add to the racism they’re promoting. If he truly wanted a conversation, instead of a one-way shouting match with this racist signs, he would actually have a shot at learning a thing or two. Instead, he just upset people in the community.
“His rebel flag don’t have a damn thing to do with me; wave it all you want,” said one man who asked not to be identified. “This idiot with his slaves for sale, are you fricking kidding me?”
The sign is now down. He says he’s made his point. How kind of him.
