There’s a story that during the latter stages of the Civil War, General Grant got so sick of his officers fretting over the possible moves and actions of General Lee he loudly castigated them, saying "Stop worrying what Bobby Lee is going to do to you and start making him worry what you are going to do to him!"
There have been an abundance of diaries fretting and fuming over the atrocity that is the Graham-Cassidy bill, with much ire directed at Senator Sanders over his rollout of the long-promised “Mediare for All” bill the same week as Senator McConnell deciding — literally out of the blue — to push Graham-Cassidy onto the calendar. How those two things are even remotely related, I’ve no idea. One could just as well castigate Hurricanes Irma and Harvey for their incredibly poor timing of hitting the Gulf region within a week of each other.
That said, I’d ask that we quit fuming over the fact the GOP is preparing to jettison what governing norms are left in the Senate and push an atrocious bill to a vote that will impact (and likely devastate) the lives of tens of millions of Americans, and spend more energy making the GOP aware of what they’re inviting upon themselves. If they actually manage to win this vote, then they win the vote...and they should be bloody terrified what comes after that, after they’ve exposed themselves as hypocrites, cowards, and monsters.
So let’s make them terrified of it.
Call and picket their offices daily, comment and mock them on social media every hour on the hour, film and upload their fleeing questions and constituents on YouTube every chance available. Do everything you can to expose them to both your personal and the public’s ire.
Give them no peace.
Make them afraid to take this vote.
Make them afraid of what comes after it.
Make them afraid of what we will do, what we will bring into being, when they pass this bill.
“Medicare for All” will be the least of their worries. Let’s make that happen, and then make everything else happen...without them.
Anyone with me on this?
