My opera buddy, who is retired from teaching at Wesleyan, submitted an entry into a lottery of 125 tickets. Other tickets were sold out within minutes and these were special. Today I went on a grocery shopping tour from hell — 3 different stores across 30 miles round trip to get victuals for my buddy’s family who will be here for the weekend.
I returned home cranky and have to empty eleventy hundred pounds of groceries from the boot of the car. Put everything away with NO HELP. Poor bastert was on the phone and I thought he was just hiding out. After my cranky crank moment he handed me an email from our indie bookstore, RJ Julia.
No, I’m not going to Disneyland (hell no). I’m going to Hillary Clinton’s book signing in October!!!!! I am so excited I can’t stand it. I’m buying ahead of time the Children’s It Takes a Village for my 5 yo next door neighbor. I hope Hillary won’t mind signing it. I’m looking for a pant suit. I’m practicing my extremely brief thank you.
I’ve only won once before in my lifetime — also excellent but not this excellent — a Stanley Tools work table, tool box and tools. My buddy gave me his winning entry and is paying for the book. So, ok, I’ve won more than twice in my lifetime. A 33 year friendship is the best.
