Currently, the Republican controlled U.S. Senate has a new, nefarious so-called “health care” bill which was drawn up in secret and has had no public hearings of any sort. It’s called the Graham-Cassidy bill and would kick responsibility for implementing the Affordable Care Act to the states in the form of block grants.
Republican “leaders” in the Senate are hailing this as some kind of a great way to achieve their objective of getting rid of Obamacare.
Unfortunately for them some of the details are now under scrutiny by the public even though they’ve chosen not to hold any kind of public hearings before voting on the bill. Public hearings are held on on all other major pieces of proposed legislation that receive votes, but not this one for some reason.
Besides the obvious deficiencies that have come to light (i.e. massive cuts in the amount of money states need to continue to provide their citizens healthcare through the exchanges not to mention the fact that this bill will make it legal for unscrupulous insurance companies to deny coverage based on preexisting conditions again), there are a couple of key questions that come to my mind about this.
If this is such a great solution to people’s health insurance needs, why does it not apply to health care for members of Congress? Why not block grant Congressional health care back to the states, too?
Under this bill, health insurance for those who need it will be drastically cut back while Senators and House members still get the best health insurance policy taxpayer dollars can buy. How is that fair?
Am just asking.
