Nothing bothers red-blooded Americans more than some “welfare queen” living high on the hog and defrauding the government. What seems to be forgotten is that most of these “welfare” fraudsters are … well ...alarmingly white. Lyle Jeffs is a bishop of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS). You may remember his brother Warren “I’m-a-convicted-pederast” Jeffs. Lyle Jeffs was captured back in June after being on the lam from a food-stamp fraud case for almost exactly a year.
Jeffs is the lead defendant in a food-stamp fraud case allegedly operating in the bordering towns of Colorado City, Ariz., and Hildale, Utah, which form the community collectively known as Short Creek.
In June 2016, while on house arrest pending trial, Jeffs disappeared, leaving behind the court-ordered ankle monitor. Prosecutors believe he slathered the device in olive oil to free his ankle.
Jeffs was captured after having reportedly been living out of his pickup truck. It was probably a fancy pickup truck, like the welfare queens I imagine in my bigot-addled mind! Lyle Jeffs was back in court on Wednesday, sporting some classic prison stripes and pleading guilty to being a huckster.
Back in custody, Jeffs was brought before U.S. District Judge Ted Stewart in a shackles and a striped jail uniform Wednesday. As the judge questioned Jeffs on whether he was pleading guilty because he was, in fact, guilty, Jeffs replied softly, "Yes sir, as far as I understand."
Stewart went on to call the deal between Jeffs and federal prosecutors "unique."
The other defendants in the case had been given a variety of deals that did not include prison time, which I guess is all white. Jeffs however, faces a recommended three-to-five-year sentence, which the judge said he would consider.
As part of Jeffs' deal, a third charge alleging conspiracy to commit money laundering was dismissed and a mandate for $1 million in restitution to the U.S. government was imposed.
Huber emphasized that the restitution must come from Jeffs personally and not from the FLDS Church.
I wonder what Jesus would say about this?
The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
