All right, how normal is it for a human being to forget that the person he's delivering absentia apologies for is standing right next to him? What if it’s his wife? Might it indicate a failing of mental faculties? Now how do we deal with that when it's the man with his finger figuratively on the nuclear button?
Because that’s exactly what Trump seems to have done, according to this article on Glamor.com:

According to Meredith Clark at Glamor, Trump said this to the crowd:
“"I just want to thank everybody, the first responders, on behalf of myself, our Vice President—Melania really wanted to be with us," Trump said, somehow forgetting that the Slovenian former model was standing directly to his left in a green shirt and white baseball cap.”
Now, I forgive him for pronouncing Namibia (assuming it was spelled correctly on whatever he was reading from). That’s a minor gaffe. But forgetting that your wife not only came along on the trip but was standing within arm’s reach of you?
It almost makes me wonder if that handshake a few days ago was because he simply didn’t recognize her. And then there was that incident where he walked right past his own limo. And that time he forgot to sign the bill the photo-op was called for. He’s making Reagan look mentally competent.
