Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut is fast becoming one of my favorite senators and has already caught my attention as a potential Democratic nominee for president in 2020.
And he’s now increased the likelihood of getting my support for any future presidential run by announcing that he has a backup plan consisting of 100 amendments should Republicans bring Graham-Cassidy up for a vote in the Senate as they’ve promised/threatened.
Even though Sen. John McCain announced yesterday he wouldn’t support the bill, two more firm Republican no votes are needed to put an end to this latest monstrosity of a so-called Republican “healthcare” bill (we should start labeling these things for what they truly are: anti-healthcare legislation because they cause far more healthcare harm than good). While Rand Paul, Republican senator from Kentucky has previously said he plans to vote against the bill, his word isn’t exactly considered to be highly credible on matters like this by many based on his previous disingenuous grandstanding.
Murphy’s plan is, apparently, to propose those amendments one after another which would, effectively, wind down the clock for the Republicans to have a “reconciliation” vote requiring only 51 votes to pass by the Sept. 30 deadline.
Glad to hear this. Murphy announced his plan on twitter, according to PoliticsUSA.
