Chris Cilliza wrote an opinion piece on CNN on Jarad Kushner & Ivanka Trump using private emails
At least a half-dozen top Trump administration officials used private email accounts to communicate about White House business, according to the New York Times. That group includes family members / senior advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner as well as departed top aides including Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon
Then, he expectedly veers into Hillary Clinton territory and produces a doozy:
She had a private email server at her home in Chappaqua, New York. She shared classified materials via that email address although, she has long contended, the materials were not classified at the time.
:Emphasis mine:
Chris could have used this Politifact sheet on the controversy:
Clinton frequently dealt with sensitive and classified information as secretary of state, and the amount that the FBI found in her email server is miniscule in comparison. It appears that she generally dealt with classified information in an appropriate way.
Of the tens of thousands of emails investigators reviewed, 113 contained classified information, and three of those had classification markers. FBI Director James Comey has said Clinton should have known that some of the 113 were classified, but others she might have understandably missed.
The FBI also determined that about 2,000 of Clinton’s emails contained information that was retroactively classified, meaning the information is classified now but not when the emails were first sent — so no one mishandled these emails.
Chris adding the “she has long contended” is Washington Speak for Both Sides do it.
My angst isn't on the Clinton issue but this type of both sideisms is the reason why the general public think that the Dems aren’t any different than GOPers and thus they are interchangeable when it is Dems who have repeatedly pulled the country out of trouble in the recent past.
I am not hopeful that the likes of Chris Cillizas of the world will change but we have to stay vigilant and call them out for these types of articles.
