This diary is an addendum to this diary www.dailykos.com/….about Houston rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson’s beautiful gift of his first NFL paycheck to three stadium food service workers who lost all their possessions in the flooding caused by Harvey.
The 22-year old Deshaun knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of such generosity. And having a stable home and giving to those in need.
When he was 11, Habitat for Humanity, with a charitable organization set-up by former NFL player Warrick Dunn, built Watson's family a house.
From SBNation..
Watson, along with his mother Deann and three siblings, lived in small, cramped government housing in Gainesville, Ga. Deshaun brought home a Habitat for Humanity note one day that gave steps to home ownership, which Deann pursued. She spent over 300 hours helping build new houses before they could move into one of their own.
Through his foundation, Dunn was able to surprise the Watson family with a furnished home with four bedrooms, two baths, and even a full refrigerator.
Whilst at Clemson, Deshaun had put-in over 400 hours helping build houses for other people for the organization that Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter have become tireless advocates, active fundraisers and some of their best hands-on construction volunteers…. and gave the Watson family the grounding they needed.
He and the entire Clemson roster went a step further.
This excellent ESPN article aptly entitled, ‘How a house became home for Deshaun Watson,’ www.espn.com/…, shows Deshaun helping build a home and how HFH changed his life forever.
According to his mother, Deann,...the soft-spoken and very grateful Deshaun “intends to make it a habit to pay-it-forward. He knows where he came from.”

Warrick Dunn: another NFL non-SOB. If you aren't familiar with his bio, he helped raise his younger siblings after his mom, a police officer in Louisiana, was shot and killed.
As an NFL player drafted by Tampa Bay, he started a charity called Home for the Holidays in honor of his mom, who, at the time of her death, had been working on buying their first family home. That was her dream, and in her memory, Dunn wanted to make it possible for other hard-working single parents to buy their own home. He continued this effort when he went to the Falcons: he helped families in New Orleans, Tampa and Atlanta through his foundation.
It's wonderful to see the photo and read the story of All Around Great Person Warrick Dunn helping Deshaun Watson's family, and seeing the results of that in the man Deshaun Watson has become.
