Do You Use Your Drafts Folder?
As you know, I’m (now) recuperating from the flu, and because I’ve been out of it all week I didn’t have a clue for this week’s diary, which makes me both clueless and fluless. So, I went through my Drafts folder, where I store all kinds of draft diaries, including a “scratchpad” draft with snippets for CUA ideas including quotes I might could build on, one draft with bits of code (leftover from DK4), one with my own personal Hotlist of linked diaries, one with graphics and images and banners, and much (too much) more. Dag, I’ve got to clean my drafts folder out….
What do you keep in your drafts folder?
Here’s what I dug up for today from a CUA Ideas draft: A couple of silly quizzes, if you’re so inclined.
Do you talk your age? We can tell how old you are just by analyzing the way you speak.
Let’s see if language and longevity have anything to do with each other…
This one’s short:
Sample question:
You're reading the first draft of a friend's novel, and their writing is making your eyes bleed! What grammar faux pas are they making?
- Double negatives
- Inconsistent tenses
- Which/that confusion
- Total ignorance of the importance of the Oxford comma
- Apostrophes out of place
- The abuse of their, there, and they’re
I came out 26 years old in this one, apparently because I sign my emails with “sent from my iPhone” rather than “with regards.” You’ve got a great vocabulary, but you grew up in the age of ever-changing technology, so you’re up on all the latest language trends as well. You’re not opposed to change, but you’re still a stickler for grammar in some cases.
Do you have a PhD, a master's or a BA? Or did you leave high school for the School of Life?
Ok, I earned my Ph.D on this one, proving it’s not that hard:
This one gives the correct answer for each question as you go along, so it’s a learning experience if you miss a couple. Hint: Brush up your Shakespeare!
This consists of 71 questions (so you might put it in your Drafts folder for later) and is a good review of general knowledge.
Sample Question:
Who wrote a famous book called THE ELEMENTS and what was it about?
- Plato, on the Periodic Table
- Sophocles, on meteorology
- Euclid, on geometry
- Aristotle, on logic
I’m giving myself permission to sleep in if I want to, so please carrion without me...
What do you want to talk about today?
VIRGINIA KOSSACKS!
