There is a new — as in he’s been there less than 30 days — commander of the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. This is him: Lieutenand General Jay B. Silveria.
He’s a three-star, a command pilot with more than 3,900 hours, a veteran of the recent conflicts in the Middle East. He was on General Wesley Clark’s staff during some of those tours. He’s also here to tell the students, staff and their families that the US Air Force doesn’t believe your racism arises from economic insecurity, or can be excused for any reason. He wants you to know that either you respect your fellow airmen — or you get out.
Would that we had more like him. Especially higher up the chain of command.
