Over the top? Yeah — at least I hope so. I have no idea how much of this Trump is aware of:
- Mueller’s current status and the various additional investigations going on.
- The fact that the generals have put some informal safeguards into place in the event that he might attempt to launch a nuclear pre-emptive strike, and are trying to put more into place / more formalized to eliminate loopholes just in case Congress doesn’t pass a first-strike approval bill. [Even if they do, I don’t see it becoming law or being considered valid, as that eliminates a major security tenet re: readiness & responsiveness.]
- The recent statement by General Dunford (Join Chiefs) that Iran was not in material breach of the agreement, making Trump’s decision to decertify it far more obvious as essentially breaking the agreement & undermining Trump’s push for investigators to lie & claim Iran is in violation
- The ongoing NK nuclear development and testing program
- The multiple ways the courts are interfering with the Muslim ban, the military Transgender issues, and other petty Trumped-up “issues” that he’s spewed hate upon
- The disintegration of his Cabinet & Administration to scandal, intrigue, and investigations
Any one of which could set him off. If the new about, and out of, the White House through non-Trumpian sources are to be believed, he’s aware of at least several of these — and each one is setting him off.
No matter how quickly remaining (increasingly desperate?) staff work to rearrange the deck chairs on his #Trumptanicburg, it’s still on fire and sinking fast.
How desperate do you think he’ll need to be to decide to engage in a war in order to delay, distract, and change the focus?
Given his demonstrated incompetence, amorality, questionable intellect and dented social skill, how successful do you think any such misadventure could be?
The GOP has protected him this far, and in doing so has also compromised many of their other key members and power bases. They almost cannot afford to let him go down now — he might just take too many of their key players, and donors, with him.
So, what other options do you think he’s considering? Could he have actually meant that idiotic remark as something beyond his usual ostentatious, gaudy showmanship — that the “calm before the storm” he suggests while standing among his military commanders might really be a genuine hint that he’s planning to engage in at least one war?
I sure as hell hope not. This guy’s shown he’s just as likely to be lying as anything else, and he does love to stir the pot and foment hints and innuendos to change the focus of the public conversation...and, right now, he desperately needs to do that.
But I have to wonder about his sanity. His capacity to actually understand. His relative inability to help himself control his base impulses to smash, grab, and destroy.
I hope someone’s keeping an eye on him, and keeping him from triggering any catastrophic actions.
And I hope Mueller can act to remove him, Pence, and a bunch of other GOP “leadership” before anything new, exciting, and devastating can be unleashed.
What’s your take?
