Bar owner Kent Smith of Dallas describes his One Nostalgia Place Tavern as a neighborhood fun place, welcoming to all, all that is, excepting Milo Yiannopoulos and Richard Spencer and their toady minions, drinking without tipping, throwing Nazi Salutes and generally behaving like total asses they are:
"They just showed up here randomly one night and pulled a stunt," said Smith. He remembers that Saturday night well. He says a group of 20 men came into the bar and had no issues until they requested a final karaoke song 10 minutes before closing….
...The song was "America The Beautiful." Smith did not recognize either of them with the group. He says if he had, they would have been kicked out immediately. One thing he did know was what a Nazi salute looked like….”
The video of the travesty has just hit the net and gone viral, Smith prays all will recognize that Milo standing in front of a banner definitely does not imply endorsement in any way, in fact he is enjoining Buzzfeed to stop them from using the image…
Kent didn’t take long to take out the trash after the stormtroop raised their hands in salute.
“Kent says toward the end of the song, there were several Nazi salutes. He says he moved in quickly.
"When we started running them out, they started chanting 'Trump!' loudly," he said. "We actually had to push some of them out the door."
Assisting Kent in the bouncing was bartender Amiti Perry who was probably miffed before the salutes, as the jerks stiffed her on her tip...
"They got their drinks and didn't tip," Perry says. "Karaoke had ended, but they asked our karaoke hostess if they could sing a cappella because she was already shutting down her equipment. Then they asked our owner and he was like, 'It's not a big deal, sing something a cappella.'"
Usually when someone sings at the bar without the help of the karaoke machine, they sing something familiar, like a show-tune, Perry says. "We had no idea what was about to happen. They started 'America the Beautiful,' and I looked at my co-workers and said 'This is odd,'" Perry says. "Then all of the sudden, halfway through the song, I see, from behind the stage, about 15 arms go up in the salute.””
Perry says she lost it and rushed the stage, grabbing the microphone from Yiannopoulos just as the song, and video clip, ended. "I said 'Get the fuck out. You are not welcome here, at all,'" Perry says. "I was yelling at them, and, I remember this distinctly, they all came around me on the stage and were yelling things. Some were shouting 'Trump, Trump, Trump,' at that point it started to hit me who these people were, and then they started saying 'Make America Great Again.' Then I had people get in my face, it might have been Milo because he didn't immediately go outside, he was kind of getting them aroused, and they were saying 'Make America White Again.'"
Here’s to the entire staff at One Nostalgia Place Tavern.
Next time I go to see my nephew in Forth Worth, I’ll be sure to stop by for a vodka gimlet.
