Derived from a comment I just posted in another diary:
This also dropped today:

Yet another allegation of a not-technically-an-illegal-act by Al Franken—behavior that was ended, once again per the accuser themselves, once it was made clear that they were very upset by it. In this case not even a sexual allegation of any kind, yet the account is still is tinged with gendered language anyway… that is clearly designed to inflame the contemporary left and play to recent issues of record in the media.
It’s a brilliantly simple strategy—give them the rope to hang themselves with.
A few folks on the right (we can all guess who they are) have clearly put together a hit-list of Democrats and their less-than-great-but-not-necessarily-illegal moments. They will:
- Push these stories into the media hard through various means
- Frame the accounts in gendered terms pointing toward sexual harassment
- Include women expressing things in “As a woman, I was...” terms
- Wait for the (D) team to rage against and bring down their own people
- All while distracting from Trump, bad policy, and Moore
Simple but effective. They know their enemy well. Sun Tzu would say, “Ahhhh… yes.”
Here we go, it’s gonna be a ride. I don’t think I’m going to stick around DKos tonight or tomorrow to participate in it, time to step back again for a bit my gut tells me it’s just going to get uglier for this site if they have the list of names they’ve claimed to have. But no doubt they anticipate that ugliness and are banking on it.
I realize there will be strong differences of opinion on what the right move is here. Fight back in kind? Stick to the letter of the law and defend these folks? Do what they expect and bring down left people to put money where mouth is on moral issues?
I also do not have any prescriptions about the right answer but I do think that the left right now is very sick, in a wide variety of ways. Discuss.
