I’m caught just one hour before publication with no cogent idea for a diary, except how the nation is in turmoil right now, and how so many men who have gotten away with sexual abuse for so long are now facing consequences for at least some of the people they’ve hurt. This has never happened before, not on this scale, not at this level. It makes me wonder if this could signal a real, permanent change in the limits of behavior for men in the presence of women. I suppose I’m being too optimistic, but could this bring about a revolution in the status and treatment of women in American society?
And thinking of revolutions, my mind turned to the multiple meanings of the word—how the revolution of the world would, in fact, turn it upside down, which, in turn, made me think of this song:
It has a depressing ending, but there’s hope in the last verse:
You poor take courage
You rich take care
This Earth was made a common treasury
For everyone to share.
I’m a little old to hold that kind of hope, but it may yet happen.
