So here we are again. The GOP is trying to ram through another hugely unpopular bill, this time a supposed tax reform bill, which is just another name for tax cuts for the wealthy. And to make it even meaner, they’ve added in repealing the individual mandate which would kick about 11-13 million Americans off of healthcare. So yes, my friends, it’s time to call Congress again to beg them not to kill us. I know this is tiring, but we need to do it. Here’s a great guide put out by Indivisible on what needs to happen over the coming weeks:
Trump Tax Scam
Besides the fact that this bill has been crafted not under regular order and entirely without input from Democrats …. it’s also one of the most unpopular pieces of legislation in recent history, only topped by the 2017 GOP healthcare “reform” (a.k.a. repeal ACA) bill:
Here’s the incredibly unpopular GOP tax reform plan — in one graph
Here is an excellent twitter thread that explains how bad this bill really is. Take the time to read it. It’s worth it and can give you some valuable information to use on the phone to your Senators.
The GOP wants to pass this bill after Thanksgiving because of the arbitrary Trump deadline that it must be done before Christmas (coal in the stocking anyone??). Trump is desperate for a win. Let’s rob him of that. If this bill goes down, there may be a chance that his GOP supporters in Congress start to jump ship. 2018 is around the corner! So jump on those phones and call your Senators.
As if Puerto Rico hasn’t been hurt enough:
Speaking of Puerto Rico:
Puerto Rico Unity March draws demonstrators in rally for disaster aid
From the piece:
Evelyn Mejil, Sunday’s event organizer, said the demonstration was a powerful display of unity behind the efforts to rebuild Puerto Rico. She said the event came together amid a tense personal struggle; she didn’t hear from her family for two weeks.
“It was a combination of frustration, anger, sadness, desperation, anxiety,” Mejil said.
Mejil, 40, who lives in northern New Jersey, learned that her relatives lost their homes.
“When you get that feeling of powerless and voiceless, I thought that something needed to be done.”
She characterized the rally as a success.
We can’t let Puerto Rico fall out of the headlines. It’s ridiculous that 2 months after hurricane Maria devastated the island, more than half the area is still without power, clean water and a reliable food supply. This is no way to treat our citizens! It would not hurt on that call to your Senators about their tax scam that you talk to them about Puerto Rico.
Now on to a few other issues…..
Here’s hoping Nebraska makes the right decision.
Seriously????
We have to battle on all fronts. This one is super important!
In the category of we knew this last year before the election…. the winner is:
OK, that’s all for now. Chat away, but make those phone calls first!
