I’ll start with the content of a comment I wrote yesterday in foresterbob’s CUA diary. It’s important to reflect on what we’re thankful for on Thanksgiving, and everybody has something fortunate in their life to be thankful about.
I’m thankful to have a job that pays well and provides good benefits, to the point where I can contemplate an early(ish) retirement. I’m thankful for a loving spouse who cares for me. I’m thankful to live in comfort and warmth when there are so many in the world who do not. I’m thankful for those elements of human culture that can lift my spirits even when the world is headed for the shitter: music, dance, art, theater and films. I’m thankful for that portion of the environment that we haven’t trashed yet, and which we may yet be able to protect. And I’m even thankful for this internet thing, making this comment possible, though the GOP is trying to take that away, too.
To these, I need to add a few additional items. I’m thankful to be in good health, and I’m thankful that all of my family and most of my friends are, too. Despite Trump and his allies and enablers daily chipping away at our institutions, I am thankful that I still live in a democracy where I can say and write what I want. I am so thankful for that wonderful Republican, Robert S. Mueller III, collecting necessary information with deliberate speed, which, I have faith, will hit the occupants in the White House like a ton of bricks. I’m thankful to be living at a time when my actions can help bring about significant change for the better, even though we are at a precarious time in our nation’s history right now. If we can drive out the interlopers who have inserted themselves into places of power they have neither the right nor the competence to hold (and I do believe it’s possible), we progressives can position ourselves to bring about a potentially huge and lasting transformation to our nation, one that has been held back for the past four decades.
I’d be happy if you could share what you’re thankful for this year, particularly if you haven’t had the opportunity to share it in another diary. Tops below the fold.
But first, a word from our sponsor:

And here we have what appears to be my 19-month-old great-niece’s favorite song, judging by how she was dancing to it:

This nomination from twingrace somehow got lost in a time warp. It was dated Nov. 18 but hasn’t been included in previous Top Comments diaries:
In ursulafaw's diary on the fetid imaginings of the "pastor" who thinks he is defending Roy Moore, Had Enough Right Wing BS reminds us of their true priorities. Hilarious!
