As all the Peeps know, it’s been a challenging year. Not only for our nation, but for many of our friends (myself included) as well. However, on this day, and despite all the challenges we’ve faced or are facing, it’s good to remember all the things we have to be grateful for.
For me, that starts with my sweet Ephraim, who sadly passed away in 2014. Although it’s lonely here without him, and the empty spot left in my heart will never fully heal… I am grateful that we got to meet at all (quite a feat, since we lived over 100 miles apart at the time), and for every minute we were able to spend together. I treasure those memories, and wouldn’t trade a second of our life together for anything on earth.
Next for me are my two pooties, Smokey & Tiger, pictured above. I once rescued them when they were barely 4 days old, feeding them with an eye dropper, giving them flea baths and treating Tiger’s inflamed bottom, etc. Then, after I lost Eph, they repaid me for that by “saving” me with their purrs, cuddles, kisses and maybe most of all, their dependence on me. I kept going for them, because who else would take care of them if I did not?
Finally, I am eternally grateful to everyone here, within and beyond the PWB community. I could never have gotten through this year without the many ways in which you all have shown me kindness, friendship, generosity (of spirit as well as of material help), etc. There are some very special folks who have truly gone above and beyond in that regard, and while most prefer to remain anonymous, there is one that MUST be mentioned, because without her, none of it would have been possible.
So thank you, BfitzinAR, for all you did to help me and so many others. You are sorely missed, and thought of daily.
I thought that the following video was appropriate, even though it doesn’t involve animals (although he certainly loved animals too), because there’s one other person we all should be thankful for. He and his wife were not members here (as far as I know) — but they had one heck of an impact on all of our lives, in the most positive way… and they are sorely missed as well.
And of course, to finish off the evening, some PWB love:
PWB Peeps is a community group that posts afternoon and nighttime diaries for animal lovers. We share photos, seek & give advice about pet health and behavior issues, support each other in times of sadness and stress, celebrate together when times are good, and on most days have an inordinate amount of fun. No pie fights here.
You are welcome to join us!
