Because of graduate school and work I’ve lived in:
Detroit metro area
Chicago metro area
Houston
Oklahoma
Idaho
Alabama
Mississippi
And though each place had its pluses and minuses I loved Houston most of all.
When most people think of Texas they think of a redstate which is of course true, but Houston is a stronghold of diversity and progressive values.
I lived in Chinatown (Which I loved as it was huge and I made many friends there and had great food (I think with my stomach :)) and the medical center where I did my post-doc. Montrose, the gay area is very nice as is my favorite part of the city, the Museum District. There was a large Jewish population and gay population so I felt very much at home. Plus, and I know I am a loner in this regard, I loved the weather. If I could move back to anywhere I once lived I’d go back in a second.
So… how about you? What is the favorite place that you have ever lived in?
