I worked for an hour, shadowing a receptionist at the animal hospital with the full time job for which I’ve been and remain in line. That just means I stood next to Katrina (the manager of the reception area, watching as she greeted people coming in, entered appointments into the computer, and backed up the operator.
My favorite part of the day was when I got to play with a boxer puppy while waiting for my turn to shadow, and after I wrote a thank you note to Katrina, when I passed a lady with 2 King Charles Spaniels and told her about the Hallmark movie featuring King Charles Spaniels. I just looked it up. It’s called Unleashing Mr. Darcy, and if you watch it because you like dog shows, it’s a big waste of time, but if you watch it because King Charles Spaniels are cute, or because Mr. Darcy is the best name, ever, it’s worth catching on Hallmark.
Before I went into the office, I wrote a thank you note to the woman who had interviewed me originally (and who will make the ultimate hiring decision.) After I was released from my shadowing, I sat in the waiting area and wrote a thank you note that I gave to Katrina before I left. Based on her acknowledgement, I think it was the first she’d received.
According to Katrina, the decision should be made in the next week or so. I really need this job, but if I get the job, I’m going to have to ask for help with gas money and for a couple of pairs of comfortable shoes over the month of December. And maybe a stool, as was suggested by a couple of commenters in a previous diary. :)
I think, though, that it would do me good to stand more than I do — which isn’t much. I have to think that I’ll lose some weight pretty quickly, if I eat decently, and spend 40 hours a week standing (or leaning on a stool) and moving around.
