It was reported out of the closed Congressional hearing held today that AG Sessions refused to answer the question of whether or not Trump had ever asked him to do anything that might hinder the Russia-Trump Campaign Connections Investigation(s). The only justification given for this refusal was the notion that Sessions has the right to refuse to divulge the contents of any discussions with the President (but NOT invoking Executive Privilege).
Setting aside Congress’ ethical and moral obligation to compel Sessions to speak (because, Republicans), Special Prosecutor Mueller should act now to indict or lay the groundwork to indict Sessions for his serious violations of law, based on the assumption that Trump did ask Sessions to take such actions.
If Trump did ask, what did Sessions then do? Arguably, anything other than what the Attorney General of the United States should do under such circumstances (which it is clear Sessions did not do) is a crime. Was the discussion documented in any way, or did Sessions learn nothing from Comey? Did Sessions mention the discussion to anyone? Inquiring special prosecutors (should) want to know!
If Trump didn’t ask, Sessions would then be forced to disclose this fact as his defense to Mueller’s indictment. In any case, there is no need now to waste any time thinking about the incredibly remote possibility that Trump didn’t ask. Sessions would have said so already. Also, we can take notice of today’s news reports that Trump asked everybody else there is to ask to stop the investigations. How could he not have also asked his pet Keebler Elf-AG to save him from the big, bad Mueller?
