The promise of a golden gate that will keep out the majority of Americans who might want to throw her into the ocean is very appealing to Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins. But, as much as waste-of-space Sen. John Cornyn and others may want, Sen. Collins is having a hard time pretending that her vote in favor of the poisonous GOP tax bill wouldn’t be met with a collective “fuck you” from her constituents. Yesterday, she tried to float a two-pronged excuse by pretending the tax cuts wouldn’t obliterate Medicare, and attempting to pass the buck onto Sen. Mitch McConnell.
“I met with Senator McConnell just yesterday, and he has assured me that that will not be allowed to happen,” Collins said of those cuts Thursday. “If it were going to occur, I would not even be considering voting for this [tax] bill.”
Of course, Sen. McConnell can’t promise anyone anything, except money from donors, and possibly a cushy job in the private sector once Collins is out on her ass having sold her constituents down the river. Maine’s AARP heard and read that quote like everyone else and wanted to make sure Sen. Collins understood exactly what they think thought about Mitch McConnell’s “promises.”
You are either with the American people and your constituents on this or you are not. There is no middle.
