Welcome to the Street Prophets Coffee Hour. This is an open thread where we can share our thoughts and comments about the day. Let’s start off by talking about the Sloth Bear.
The Sloth Bear is currently endangered due to fragmentation of populations, deforestation, and the demand for bear parts which are used in traditional Asian medicines. Sloth bears are found throughout India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. They have become extinct in Bangladesh.
Until 1810, they were classified as bear sloths because of their slow gait and their ability to climb trees. Like sloths, the sloth bears consume insects, particularly termites. Since they don’t have their two front incisors, they can quickly remove insects like a high-powered vacuum.
