The headline of course emphasizes the “evenness” of the race, and in fairness this poll is essentially the same as those showing Moore +5, but I have seen posts on this board lately utterly conceding this election, and it has been exasperating. This poll should dispel all of us of that!
Key points from the article:
Among the 1 in 4 voters who say the candidates’ moral conduct will be the most important factor in their vote, Jones leads, 67 percent to 30 percent.
I’d think that would be a big part of the overall AL electorate.
And Jones, whose strategy relies in part on peeling way Republican support from Moore, has the backing of 1 in 6 GOP-leaning likely voters. About 1 in 14 Democratic-leaning voters are backing Moore.
That’s an overwhelming ratio in Jones’ favor.
Jones has the backing of 33 percent of white voters in the state. Barack Obama won just 15 percent of white votes in Alabama in his 2012 presidential reelection
All of this only makes the overall race competitive for a dem in Alabama, but it is competitive, so let’s stay on it please.
Look for further encouragement this week from the national Fox News pollster (not the local Fox affiliates who are working with various pollsters) for another poll showing Jones leading. He was +8 in their last poll, and they have been more pro-Jones than other pollsters in this race. I expect Jones to be up 2–4 in the next and likely last poll from them.
