White men make up about 35% of the population of Alabama.
Apparently only 26% of white men living in Alabama voted for Doug Jones. 26% of 35% of the entire voting population of Alabama.
I’m one of them. I honestly thought there would be more of us—that more would shake off the weird sickness that seems to have been permeating the country—and step up to forcefully repudiate Judge Pedobear. But it didn’t happen. 26% of us stepped up, the others… stood aside.
Every vote matters, individually, but as a block we were not part of the solution.
Black women were part of the solution.
Black men were part of the solution.
Individually, white men and women did vote for Doug Jones. Mrs. Death Ray and I are examples of that. And individual actions do matter. Every single one. But tactically, you can’t focus your time and attention on 26% of 35% of the entire population.
I’m not saying this to discount me, and people like me. 26% of 35% is still votes. In an election that was one by 1.5% of the number of voters, they were necessary votes.
But we were not the base.
