Update 01
Per demolade in the comments, some good instructions:
Also, please EVERYONE, check your local area event—and if there isn't one, please start one! It’s easy to do, just follow the tools.
We’ve been planning this for a while: the event you hope you will never have to hold. But it’s a loose thing, and will vary by area/location.
Most events have been using a FaceBook ‘event’ posting to help register RSVPs. Please sign up so event hosts know how many might attend. Please also note if you can help with organizing or press events—there’s a lot to do to maximize the effort.
Two notes: 1) the dates on FB are often set to ‘tbd’ or something similar, since we don’t know the actual date that this might happen. The timing guidelines are in place for ‘immediate’ response, but some may vary according to location, weather, etc.. 2) If you have R MOCs, meetings are often at their offices. For larger cities, or with D MOCs, the protests/marches will focus on Federal Bldgs/CIty Hall areas.
If your event shows ‘closed’, that just means that the host put in a number that has been exceeded. You can and SHOULD still show up. (This has happened in a few places and hosts usually adjust the number to allow registration, but just be aware that this is the result of an arbitrary number in most cases.) You may also contact your event host to suggest an increase to allow you to register.
We have generally been advocating to have larger aggregate groups—for example, in LA, we could meet in any number of cities/places within the County, but are trying to focus everyone to downtown City Hall (and the Federal Admin bldgs). The fact that it’s also near the LA Times bldg is a plus for coverage.
Like the Women’s March, we want BIG throngs of people, the more people in one area, the more powerful it plays. Obviously, for anyone who can get to or be in DC, that would be ideal.
But, even if you are too far from such a large group, still do your thing and start a group to spread the word. To make an impact, this will need to be Nationwide and probably more visible than the Women’s March.
Some of the groups have also set up alert systems—phone or texts. Check into these as well and sign up.
We also really hope this DOESN’T happen, so in the meantime, PLEASE CALL OR VISIT THE R OFFICES TO VOICE YOUR CONCERN THAT THEY STOP/PREVENT THIS WH ACTION! I know we’re all busy on the tax calls and actions, but add this to the script when you call or visit. The best case is for it NOT to happen, but they have to know we are watching them and are prepared to act!
Again, we all hope it doesn’t happen, but be prepared! And, if it happens, SEE YOU IN THE STREETS!
