Happiness is a book that grabs you and won't let you go, that gives you new insights, that inspires you, that makes you ask questions and that helps you have insight into your own inner self. With a really good book, you can feel yourself opening up like a door and letting new thoughts in or rearranging old thoughts or just reaffirming them.

I just finished The White Mirror by Elsa Hart who wrote Jade Dragon Mountain, too. Both mysteries are interesting and fresh and the main character engaged my heart as well. He was a librarian.
Overview
The White Mirror: A Mystery by Elsa Hart
In The White Mirror, the follow-up to Elsa Hart’s critically acclaimed debut, Jade Dragon Mountain, Li Du, an imperial librarian and former exile in 18th century China, is now an independent traveler. He is journeying with a trade caravan bound for Lhasa when a detour brings them to a valley hidden between mountain passes. On the icy planks of a wooden bridge, a monk sits in contemplation. Closer inspection reveals that the monk is dead, apparently of a self-inflicted wound. His robes are rent, revealing a strange symbol painted on his chest...
Trapped in the snow, surrounded by secrets and an unexplained grief that haunts the manor, Li Du cannot distract himself from memories he’s tried to leave behind. As he discovers irrefutable evidence of the painter’s murder and pieces together the dark circumstances of his death, Li Du must face the reason he will not go home and, ultimately, the reason why he must.
I am re-reading A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. I read it in May and I have talked about it ever since then. I think this is the first time I ever decided to re-read a book so soon, but I just know I missed a lot of things and I want to spend time with the characters all over again.
...
New books are coming out, too. Somehow I missed a new Bess Crawford story, A Casualty of War by Charles Todd, and there is a new one with Ian, The Gate Keeper coming on Feb. 6th. I do enjoy being with these characters, too.
...
I just ordered Emergence by C. J. Cherryh and The Lost Plot by Genevieve Colman (Jan. 9th) . Coming in the mail soon, too, is Magic, Madness and Mischief by Kelly McCullough (middle grade, but I always enjoy his books no matter for what age).
...
Also on my wish list at B&N are Fantasy/Scif books:
Foster, Alan Dean: Strange Music
Gardner, James Alan: All Those Explosions Were Someone Else’s Fault
Cast in Deception by Michelle Sagara (Jan. 23)
Neogenesis by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (Jan. 2nd)
Cobra Traitor by Timothy Zahn (Jan. 2nd)

Christmas letter from Youffraita

Her kitty that she calls Baby should be called Beware as he is still bringing her dead mice. He also dunks his play mice in his water dish to make them heavier, she is not sure why.

There was a power surge at work and now her satellite radio plays parts of songs and jumps to a completely new kind of music in a crazy sort of way which is very strange…moving from Jingle Bells in Spanish to big band stations.

She is enjoying the new translation of The Odyssey by Emily Wilson. She bought the book and then she won some money on a scratch off ticket and it paid for the book. She says Brecht must try this book and anyone who likes things like Beowulf, The Eddas, Old Norse Sagas. (Tara, too). For her birthday, she is going to get the Da Vinci book by Isaacson.
...
The guy who is going to help her with her phone is still on third shift so she doesn’t know when they can get together.
...
She says:
“Greetings & Happy Holidays to everyone! Wishing you all a terrific New Year!” (Waves madly). (Missing all of us, of course.) and {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}
