On January 5 of 2005 my life on Earth broke apart.
I was living in suburban Chicago at the time and just put on the waiting list for a new job at the company I had been working for. They merged with another company and some of us were put on hold until the new infrastructure could be worked out. That morning I got a phone call offering to fly me in to metro-Detroit (Which is where I hail from originally) for a job. I was geeked. I called my parents house to let them know the good news and that I would be flying in for a few days in a few days.
I was shocked only hours later when my ex-brother, who lived in Houston called me back saying he was in MI and had bad news and told me my mother and father were in a car crash and my mother was killed instantly.
I got a ride right away from a good friend to Detroit. I was in utter shock.
My mom was a volunteer at a hospital, oddly enough the one I now spend so much time at. She had the flu so missed 4 days of volunteering so she wanted to go back as soon as she could, never mind the area was having blizzard like conditions. So my dad drove her in that day and they never made it.
My father survived another 3 years but he was never the same...mentally nor physically.
My mom made a great impact on many lives… the funeral was packed. I learned a lot from my mother and not a day goes by when I do not think of her
Even though her Yahrzeit is not until sunset the evening of January 10 I chose to celebrate the year of her passing on the English calendar anniversary of her passing.
