Good evening, Kibitzers! Sadly, the holidays are really really over now, but on the upside, so is that below-zero air thing. So now, it’s time to consider that it is less than two weeks until the 2018 Women’s March(es) on SATURDAY, JANUARY 20. I know you still have your hat! And I bet you still have some posterboard, because it comes in a big slippery plastic bag of three or five or something, that is like trying to bring an armload of eels to the register. You didn’t use all those sheets up.
So we need you to turn out to your local march! Or not a local one, don’t care! Women, plus men and kids, need to get out in the street and make themselves seen and heard again, because we’re revving up to make a big blue wave this November. If you have not been to a march ever, and you have heard terrible things about how inconvenient they are in many ways, perhaps you wonder why millions of people keep showing up to them anyway. They are not better people than you! They show up because we are social primates, and no matter how much we may know intellectually that we have many on our side, when you join a GIANT FLOOD of people filling the streets and agreeing with you, THAT’S when you FEEL it. It is so empowering! I recommend it. And luckily, your chance to do it is coming right up!
I’m writing because navajo carries march signups in every morning’s CUA diary, and the signups have been looking mighty anemic for weeks. I know that many kossacks will attend with other groups, and also that there are many, many events listed on Facebook and surely not all those places have a Daily Kos organizer. So if you’re going to any Women’s March event anywhere, please cheer me up and tell me about it. (If you post your own diary about it, use the #WomensMarch tag so people can find it.)
Hell, I am happy to walk down 8th Avenue with just joanbrooker and gchaucer2 (I think I recall northbronx will be there again too), but you know, the more the merrier. Come to New York, or to Washington DC or L.A. or wherever you can get to! Who’s with me??
Beautiful 2017 march diaries from northbronx and from gchaucer2 do a much better job than I at expressing the feelings of the day.

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well. |
