She is not my first choice, but the way some motherfuckers talk about her tells me I need to speak on it anyway. So here is how I feel about Oprah 2020.
I feel like ya'll beat the wonk out of me. I feel like you made it clear that likability is job one for the first woman President, just in practical terms of what actually has to happen to *become* the first woman President. It's fucking bullshit. But we Hillary voters love our pragmatism so imma absorb that.
And I feel like given that pre-requisite, Oprah is my fucking jam. There are women I'd rather see lead us. I'd rather see Tammy Duckworth. I'd rather see Kamala Harris. But if we're talking about candidacies I can get behind? Bet your ass I'm ready to ride that Oprah train.
There was a time when I believed no President could truly understand the job - that their role was to provide vision and direction and to exercise the wise hiring practices it takes to execute on that vision. We don't expect our generals to be snipers, munitions experts, intelligence experts, martial art savants, squad leaders, pilots, and recruiters. We don't expect a CEO to be a maestro QA tester, inspired writer, god tier coder, visionary artist, savvy businessman, and genius manager.
Turns out you *can* be that good. You *can* have that breadth. You *can* dig that deep. Well know what? We nominated that lady and ya'll shot her the fuck down, so here is where I am now:
Give me a standard-bearer with the charisma to win, the values to want to govern justly, and the wisdom to hire faithful and skilled executors. I'd love her to also know what she's doing in her own right, but clearly that shit is not on the menu in this country. So give me good will, good governance, and good delegation. I see that in Oprah. And while I'm not heavy riding that candidacy, you bet your ass I'm good with it.
I wanted a wonk. America told me it doesn't. Fine
