Anchorage schools advocate Alyse Galvin announced Thursday that she's running for Alaska's U.S. House seat – the one held for 45 years by Republican Don Young.
"I think that we need a change and I think that Alaskans are looking for an independent voice to speak for what Alaska needs right now," Galvin said in a phone interview before her evening campaign kickoff event. "And I think we need someone who is better in touch with that."
Galvin, 52, has helped lead a loosely knit advocacy group called Great Alaska Schools for the past several years. She has also owned small businesses, taught and worked in the state education department in former Gov. Sean Parnell's administration, according to a biography provided by her campaign.

In a bit of an Alaskan twist, she’s running as an Independent, but also on the Alaskan Democratic primary ballot (recently upheld in the courts as legal for party to choose to allow this if they so choose), so if she wins the primary (she will), she will not be running against any Democrat in the general election.
Alyse is Founder of Great Alaska Schools. She is touting jobs, healthcare, and education as her main issues. Alaska’s Democratic Party is cooperating with and supporting her campaign.
She already has an Act Blue page and you can support her on that here:
