The White House put out a statement saying it neither denies nor confirms that Trump called Haiti and Africa shithole countries.
Bu way of “explanation “ they offered this
“Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people,” White House spokesperson Raj Shah said in a statement, adding a list of parameters the president believes should be part of any immigration agreement.
And this
One witness to Trump's comments said "it was in more general terms than Haiti or Africa. At least it was in context. Sometimes he goes off on things. And he’s very disjointed. In this case, he doesn’t know what TPS [Temporary Protected Status] is. He didn’t realize these people are already here. ... He says things that are offensive all the time. It’s like he doesn’t know.”
Come on. Doesn't know? He sat in an immigration meeting yesterday where he only needed gentle guidance and followed practically the whole debate!
They are very happy for this to get out. The trumpanzees are cheering and he can't offend the rest of us any more than he already has. This will have zero effect just like the tweets about Mika did, which was about his lowest point to that date. If there was any remaining hope that we can “reach out” to his supporters let's hope this puts it to rest
