The race for a state House seat covering much of northern Sarasota County is starting to heat up, with Democrat Margaret Good raising nearly twice as much campaign cash as Republican James Buchanan during the last reporting period and Buchanan’s allies releasing attack ads targeting Good.
The hardball tactics by Buchanan supporters and Good’s strong fundraising are signs that that the race is competitive. www.heraldtribune.com/…
It seems that what pissed James Buchanan (son of U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan) off the most was that Margaret Good raised more money than he did. Good raised over $100,000 last month and Buchanan only raised about half of that.
It’s unusual for a Democrat to raise more money there than a Republican, especially a Republican with a very wealthy US Congressman for a father.
This is the SPECIAL ELECTION FEBRUARY 13th in Florida’s House District 72. Alex Miller (R) stepped down from this seat in September, hence the special election.
Some group supporting Buchanan sent out mailers and put out an attack ad on Margaret Good. I know I’m odd, but I found the ad funny. Well, there are perhaps some untruths about her legal practice, but mainly they attacked her for; wanting FL to accept Expanded Medicaid under the ACA, and for siding with the liberals.
The ad, a thirty-second verbal assault on the Democrat, begins with the narrator describing her as “liberal lawyer Margaret Good. Just plain bad.” floridapolitics.com/...
That’s the part I found so funny. Everything they were accusing Margaret Good of is exactly why folks would vote for her. We WANT a liberal candidate, we WANT expanded Medicaid, we're Democrats. This is our platform; it’s why we vote for the Democratic Party.
So, as I was yelling at the radio about this, I was also enjoying a good laugh. I’m not sure their ad sends the message they think it does.
