Oh great.
Spear-phishing in Senate waters, Pawn Storm/Fancy Bear is apparently attempting to steal Senate correspondence and/or hack into private information — yet another attempt to disable our democracy.
When I write to my Senators and vice-versa, we need to feel secure in the exercise of our democratic rights. Our Senators need to feel secure in their ability to do their duty.
It sure would be nice if the Republicans would stand up to this but nooooo. They are opening investigations into Hillary Clinton, the emails, the Clinton Foundation, Uranium One, the FBI, and accusing Christopher Steele of being a criminal.
Need I add they haven’t exactly denounced “the vulgar talking yam,” as Charles Pierce of Esquire calls him, for his nakedly racist and deplorable comments and Haitians, Africa and Norway, which he is now lying about, of course.
I am going to scream.
Anyway, from Washington Post,
The Russian hackers who stole emails from the Democratic National Committee as part of a campaign to interfere in the 2016 election have been trying to steal information from the U.S. Senate, according to a report published Friday by a computer security firm.
Beginning last June, the Russian hackers set up websites that were meant to look like an email system available only to people using the Senate’s internal computer network, said the report by Trend Micro Inc. The sites were designed to trick people into divulging their personal credentials, such as usernames and passwords.
The company, Trend Micro, didn’t say if information had been stolen and the Senate Sergeant at Arms hasn’t spoken.
Great.
