Not much to go on right now in terms of what’s involved or for how long, but this report is just breaking on Daily Beast.
The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a stopgap government spending bill, kicking it to the Senate where its prospects are uncertain ahead of a Friday night deadline to keep the government open. The legislation, known as a continuing resolution, passed 230 to 197 with mostly Republican votes.
I’ll update as details emerge.

The House-passed bill funds the government through Feb. 16 and reauthorizes the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for six years. In the Senate, a handful of Republicans have already come out against the measure in protest of a lack of progress on a longer term budget deal, while a majority of Senate Democrats vowed to vote against the bill because it does not codify protections for undocumented immigrants whose parents brought them to the U.S. illegally.
So, basically, a poison pill bill? At least it appears that the GOP finally figured out that they’re going to own any shutdown that might happen.

House passage was assured after the House Freedom Caucus reached an accord with House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis. The leader of the hard-right group, Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., said Ryan promised future votes on extra defense spending and on a conservative, restrictive immigration bill. Meadows also spoke to President Donald Trump.
But most Senate Democrats and some Republicans were expected to oppose the measure when it reaches that chamber later Thursday. Democrats were hoping to spur slow-moving immigration talks, while a handful of Republicans, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., were pressing for swifter action on immigration and a long-sought boost in Pentagon spending.
