A former assistant police chief in suburban Louisville, Kentucky sent racist messages to a Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) recruit advising him to kill black teenagers who smoke marijuana and to rape the parents of white teen pot smokers.
The Louisville Courier-Journal reports former Prospect Police Department (PPD) Assistant Chief Todd Shaw resigned last year after the racist messages, which were ordered released by a judge earlier this week, were discovered.
Shaw, a former 20-year LMPD veteran, was advising a PPD recruit assigned to write a paper on “the right thing to do” in a scenario in which an officer catches three juveniles smoking marijuana.
"Fuck the right thing,” Shaw replied. “If black shoot them.”
Shaw then advises the recruit on how to handle the parents of white teens caught smoking weed:
“If mom is hot then fuck her. If dad is hot then handcuff him and make him suck my dick. Unless daddy is black. Then shoot him."
WDRB reports Shaw also advocated the destruction of public housing where black people live:
"For years I have seen the blacks live off uss [sic] and putting them in one big housing area breeds HUGE peoblems [sic]. We don't see a Muslim problem around here we just see lazy ass people that don't want to work and that entices more Mexicans to cross the border and take the American jobs.”
Shaw also disparaged Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. as “nothing but a raciast [sic] womanizer.”
“But because someone shot him, I get a day off with pay each year so I will take it,” he added.
In a press release, Prospect Mayor John Evans called Shaw’s messages "abhorrent, disgusting, and, reprehensible.”
"The City of Prospect has zero tolerance for the type of content sent by Shaw," Evans wrote. "I want to make it crystal clear: neither the City of Prospect, not its citizens, condone, support or endorses the views expressed by Shaw in these postings.”
Shaw had also been under investigation for allegedly interfering with a sexual abuse probe of LMPD’s Explorer program, a scandal in which two officers, Kenneth Betts and Brandon Wood, allegedly molested multiple boys and girls participating in the program over the past decade.
