We are desperately trying to save another family from Trump's deportation machine here in Detroit.
Detroit recently lost Jose Garcia, a 30 year resident of the US who came here at 10, to deportation, devistating his family. Now ICE has Ded Rranxburgaj in their sights.
The family is currently taking sanctuary in a local church, resisting the deportation. Local community groups are trying to help but we need national attention and pressure on politicians and ICE to act and save this family.
Their story in brief: Ded and his wife Flora and their young son came here in 2001 from Albania seeking asylum. Their petition was in various states of being processed and appealed until 2006 during which time they had another son, now 15 and an American citizen.
In 2006 their petition was denied but Flora had by then been diagnosed with severe MS. She could not travel and Ded was her sole provider and caregiver, so they were allowed a humanitarian stay. Just recently, without cause or warning, Ded's humanitarian stay was revoked by ICE. Flora's was not, she will be allowed to stay. If Ded is deported that will leave their sons, one in high school and one in college, as Flora's sole support and one or both of them will have to drop out of school. The oldest son is covered by DACA but because Trump has rescinded the order and Congress has yet to act, as of March 5th he may also face deportation. This will leave a 15 year old American boy to feed, clothe, bathe and financially support his mother, whose condition will gradually get worse.
Ded has worked in a local restaurant for the past 17 years, never missing a day and never taking one single day off. That's 7 days a week for 17 years. He has never broken a law and he has always complied with everything Immigration demanded of him. There is no legal path for him to take, as this was denied, and there is no line he can get in. He has done everything conservative immigration opponents claim to want from immigrants, yet no mercy is being shown to him with many local right-wingers calling for his deportation. This deportation order is inhumane, serves no one, and will destroy a family. Flora cannot travel and will likely never see her husband again in her lifetime if he is deported.
The story has barely touched national outlets, with one story at ABC, one at WaPo and one at NPR. Locally it has been covered by the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News.
Any attention you can give this case, please give it. Gaining attention in traditional and social media to pressure ICE and politicians in Michigan and Washington to intervene is the only hope this family has of not having their lives destroyed by Trump's deportation regime. Please help us.
Here is where people can contact the ICE Detroit Field Director, Rebecca Adducci to ask for a humanitarian stay:
https://act.myngp.com/Forms/-8926994710164076544
Also people can call Sen. Gary Peters and ask HIM to call Ms. Adducci, and for him to make a public statement in support of the Rranxburgaj (RANKS-burg-eye) family. His number is 202-224-6221.
Again, please help us.
