Former sports doctor Larry Nasser, who has been found guilty of molesting/abusing/raping up to 265 young female atheletes, has been sentenced up to 175 years in prison. But that sentence is not good enough for some. The father of three of Nasser’s victims, Randall Margraves, had a special request for the judge in a Michigan courtroom on Friday. Margraves said he wanted “five minutes in a locked room” with Nasser. Here is the video of what happened next.
BBC reports:
Margraves: I would ask you to, as part of this sentencing, to grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon. Would you do that?
Judge: That’s not how our...
Margraves: Yes or no?
Judge: No sir, I can’t.
Margraves Would you give me one minute?
Judge: You know that I can’t do that. That’s not how our legal system works…
Margraves: Well, I’m going to have to…
(Hargraves lunges towards Nasser and is wrestled down by court police.)
Police officer: Stay down.
Margraves: Give me one minute with the bastard!
Margraves: (While pinned to the ground) One minute.
Police Officer: Get on your side.
Margraves: Where is he?
...
Margraves later apologized to the court telling the judge he was “embarrassed.” The judge did not press charges.
Was the the father was right or wrong to do what he did—in the courtroom?
My vote would be he was right. But then, this father was not penalized—others might not be be as fortunate, though one is hard pressed to find anything fortunate given this father’s pain.
It will be interesting to hear how others feel.
