A couple of weeks ago, Crashing Vor requested our assistance because the Don’t-be-EVIL jerks who run Google/YouTube gave “partners” like him 30 days notice that they’re gonna “protect their community” and “strengthen their creator ecosystem” (kinda Orwellian, don’t ya think?!) by taking away his ads if he doesn’t get 1000 subscribers AND 4000 hours of views within the past 12 months. (The measure previously adopted in April 2017 was 10,000 hours of lifetime views, which Crashing Vor had met.) From his diary (my emphasis):
This will be a severe blow, as YouTube ads have netted me a stunning $19 over the last decade. The loss of two bucks a year will certainly put me in the poor house.
Truly, I don’t give two spits about the dough, but Google/YouTube does weight advert-loaded videos more heavily in searches, so getting kicked off the “Partner” program will result in much lower view numbers.
The DKos community quickly rallied so that his channel now has 1022 subscribers (YAY!), but the 4000 hours of views is a longer term effort. He had approximately 800 hours when he first asked for our assistance, then 1040 hours by Jan. 26th. My guess is that he still needs at least 2500 hours of views in the next two weeks. (Edited to add that CV reported in comments that he still needed 2800 hours of views before this diary posted.)
We can do this because we’re a real community, not an Orwellian one! Here are some of my favorite Crashing Vor videos:
I watch Meditation with Biscuit when I’m trying to wind down before going to sleep each night. (It’s 30 minutes long, and I’m usually so stressed out that I end up watching it more than once.) I also frequently listen to it as background music when reading.
On a day when The Occupant has ordered Dept. of Energy to prepare for possibility of first US nuclear test in 26 years, we need to support creators who post videos like World without War:
During a time when the Occupant and his Republican enablers all seem to believe that they’re above the law, we need to support creators who make effective political ads exposing and countering Republicans. These Guys is Crashing Vor’s
all-time most-watched video, which got over 175,000 views, 1,000 likes, and notice from James Fallows, PBS and political reporters as far away as Sweden [after it was posted in June 2012.]
It now has 176,992 views:
Let’s conclude on an upbeat note: I dare you to try not to smile while watching and listening to Best Day Ever:
Love that hula hoop guy!
Please help one of our very own creators by making a special effort to watch as many minutes of Crashing Vor’s videos as you can during the next 2 weeks. You can watch the ones embedded here and in other diaries and comments, or over at his channel: Louie Ludwig.
See also belinda ridgewood’s instructions for playing all of his videos on a LOOP. (Look for the box toward the bottom of her diary.)
Update:
Point of fact: I’ll never make it. As of this morning, there were 1,200 view-hours out of the required 4K.
However…
The amount of views of ad-laden videos had led to a super duper surplus of dough. Last I checked, YouTube owes me not $18, but $38!
Whatever the total owed when I kicked off YT’s parter program, I’m going to donate it to whichever candidates or causes the community decides. So get out your wish lists, folks. Vor’s big bucks are wiiiiiiiide open.
