To counteract the effects of listening to the news, I’ve been listening to Pete Seeger CDs in my car. He wrote this in the liner notes to Dangerous Songs:
We all know there are two sides to every question. There are two sides to a piece of flypaper, too, but it makes a great difference to the fly which side he lands on.
The late great Mr. Seeger still lifts our spirits and reminds us of the power of community — a remarkable legacy! (Do kids still sing together as we did when I was growing up in the late 50’s and 60’s?) — here’s a link to one of his many songs. What’s your favorite? (I’d make a poll but it would be far too long! And how would you ever choose a side?)
Which Side Are You On?
Edited to add the names of the Almanac Singers in the photo: L-R: Woody Guthrie, Millard Lampell, Bess Lomax Hawes, Pete Seeger, Arthur Stern, Sis Cunningham. Thanks to commenter!
