Back from an afternoon in Berkeley. Much needed after this morning’s session at the gym.
Got the go-ahead last week to resume my exercise so I’ve been back on the cycles for cardio, hatha yoga, once weekly one-on-one with my trainer, and signed up for weekly group circuit training.
Today was my second circuit training session and wow, it was a doosie.
The meds I am on keep me in a state of perpetual physical fatigue, feeling like I have a mouth full of marbles when I try to talk, and a head full of ‘Damp Rid absorbing tablets’ sucking up my ability to retrieve information and form coherent sentences.
This morning’s circuit was especially challenging:
Circuit training is an exercise method in which you perform six to 10 exercises in a row, with minimal rest between them. ... Circuit training can be useful for weight loss, but you may also use circuits to improve your strength, muscular endurance or muscle size
I did fine cognitively at the stations where you had to do core crunches, planks, or run in place, but oh those challenging kettle ball exercises. No matter how many times the trainer would demonstrate, I was incapable of retrieving the information. At one point, the 5 lb weight flew backward out of my hand at waist height.
The entire hour was humiliating, embarrassing, and humbling. Sure, the women in the group kept telling me to pat myself on the back for showing up and the trainer would talk about muscle memory kicking in at some point.
This particular group has been exercising together for years and years, something which becomes obvious when you train with them because of their familiarity with each other’s lives (e.g., Lady A wasn’t there today because when she and Lady B were getting mani-pedis yesterday her toe got knicked and when she woke up it was hurting).
As a group they seem to share the same mindset and purpose: Keep the workout as unchallenging as possible by diverting the trainer's attention with lengthy conversations. Things she’ll care about like pets, rising blood pressure, up and coming vacations. This morning, I think I was the only one who broke a sweat.
I’ve signed up for a four-pack with this group. Meh. Give me hatha yoga any day!
Recipe of the Week
Fat-Burning Rocket Fuel Latte Blocks (low-carb, paleo + keto) I have ordered all the ingredients not available in my grocery stores and can’t wait to try these out!)
Take your fat-burning, keto Rocket Fuel Latte on-the-go with these travel-friendly keto coffee blocks. A keto Bulletproof coffee upgrade. Just add coffee or tea, shake, and enjoy.
Not familiar with the keto Rocket Fuel Latte way? They’re basically an upgrade to the classic keto “butter coffee” or keto “Bulletproof coffee”, specifically created to regulate hormones and abolish cravings. The keto Rocket Fuel Latte came about after my bad experience drinking Bulletproof coffee.
