During a segment of Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” this week, a profound and somewhat surprising statement came from Louisiana Republican Senator John Neely Kennedy regarding Trump’s narcissistic desire for a military parade.

Reporter: What do you think about the prospects of having a military parade? Do you think that’s a good idea?
Kennedy: No.
Reporter: Why not?
Kennedy:
I think confidence is silent and insecurity is loud. America is the most powerful country in all of human history. Everybody knows it and we don’t need to show it off. We’re not North Korea. We’re not Russia. We’re not China—and I don’t want to be.

Right now, I don’t want to know his voting record or his previous support of Trump—I’ll reasearch that later. I just want to swim in the moment of what seems to be a rare form of Republican sensibility and humility. May all Republican Congress members step forward with more of this.
