The word “pip” will not be understood by many of a certain younger age here. And to be honest, this was a word from my parent’s vocabulary, that I have only recently begun to use.
A “pip” is someone who just gets up, again and again, and doesn’t whine about it. A “pip” is someone who has an amazing ability to not let the criticism about her lay her down, while at the same time, she is listening.
It pisses me off no freaking end that too many here do not understand Pelosi’s success, whether in the majority or the minority. She is a famous whipper of votes, who has done it again and again. OMG, Paul Ryan can’t begin to fill her shoes. He’s had no where near her successes.
Yes, young blood is always good. Here’s another thing that’s VERY VERY good. An accomplished and experienced person, whose been around the block enough to know things you and I could never dream of---just as anyone here who has had a long career knows how much smarter they’ve gotten at it.
Nancy Pelosi, just yesterday, spent 8 hours on the floor giving voice to our party. My God, yes, she is a pip. But for some, none of this will be enough.
I see BOTH misogyny---if you missed it, the republicans have decided to make her their number one target in the next mid terms---AND ageism.
It is true that not everyone can carry on beyond a certain age, with the vim and vigor we need these days. But, Ms. Pelosi HAS done that, and shows no signs of slowing down. So in her case, we get both vigor AND long time experience.
No, I have not agreed with everything Pelosi has done. When does that ever happen in politics?! But I’ll take my chances with her any day, for now, and now is all we ever have.
There are many women up and coming in our party, and some day, hopefully, one of them will replace Pelosi in a way as long and solid as she has accomplished. Oh, and BTW, nothing against a great male speaker either, but then we’ve had PLENTY O of those. Pelosi is an under appreciated, incredibly strong woman, in a job NO OTHER WOMAN HAS DONE AS WELL AT OR FOR AS LONG. Not even close, in fact, pretty much non-existent.
I think of Janet Yellen and her excellent talents, although not as publicly followed as Pelosi. She wasn’t any spring chicken either, but she sure knew her stuff. And I believe we are just beginning to suffer her absence.
In a world where we are living longer, and healthier while doing so, we simply must NOT make the case for fresh blood vs. successful and long proven experience UNLESS a person shows sign of no longer being able to deliver.
There are ALL KINDS OF PLACES for fresh blood in our party, and their time will come. But NO, I’m not interested in giving up Pelosi, until she’s ready to give up---and I totally trust her to know that moment.
Again, we have the much younger Paul Ryan as the speaker of the house, and he’s pretty much as shallow and without depth of experience or empathy as you can get, but he sure is “young blood.” And he sure ain’t no “wonk” as the GOP would like to tell you he is. He’s an Ayn Rand zealot, and as we have recently seen in his clueless re-tweet of a woman who was snarking the hell out of him, he’s not too bright or perceptive. You won’t catch Pelosi in this kind of idiot move.
AGAIN, the GOP has put their stake in the sand over this in recent days. They will make Pelosi their target in the mid terms. Because really, what else do they have? Yeah, maybe Schumer, but he’s a man, and easier to go after the women with the deplorables. And yes, they ARE deplorable to me, and I make no apologies for it.
Not to mention the fact that our best chances in the upcoming midterms are in the house. So of course, the GOP will make it about the house, and Pelosi.
Well, at least the GOP understands the threat that she is to them. Will we help them bury their nightmares, or will we say, “Oh no you don’t!” Will we join them in once again, eating our own, or will we say “Oh no you don’t!”
