After yet another gun atrocity, I noted to a friend that we are the only, the only, advanced country in which this happens, thanks to Republicans. He noted that the same was true of our refusal to provide universal healthcare coverage. I said, “Again, thank a Republican.” That’s when it occurred to me that we have been remiss in not thanking Republicans enough for all they have done to – ah – for us.
Another gun death leads the local nightly news? Thank a Republican.
A teacher dies because she could not afford healthcare? Thank a Republican.
Ripped off by a financial “counselor”? Thank a Republican.
Airline seats accommodate only one cheek? Thank a Republican.
Child born with brain damage because you ate some corn? Thank a Republican.
Your rural county still reeling from the Great Recession? Thank a Republican.
Your wage has stagnated and you live in a right-to-work state? Thank a Republican.
Worried that Social Security or Medicare won’t be there when you need them? Thank a Republican.
Just realized that 80% of the benefits of the new tax bill goes to the wealthiest of the wealthiest? Thank a Republican.
Concerned that Putin may not allow our first amendment rights (or any others) to continue to be enforced? Thank a Republican.
Wondering whether it will matter that the national debt is about to undergo an inflationary expansion? Thank a Republican.
…..
That’s just off the top of my head after a couple of glasses of wine and at a way-too-late hour. I’m sure that we could expand this list bigly. You can see the problem, then. There is just so much for which we need to thank the Republican Party. Maybe the DNC should consider thanking the RNC directly? Maybe in an ad campaign? Or something.
