I hope everyone is well.
Yesterday, oral arguments were heard in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York challenging the constitutionality of continuing cannabis prohibition. blog.norml.org/… This portion from the Complaint summarizes the arguments well:
“As shown below, despite the relatively recent stigmatization of Cannabis in the United States as a supposed “gateway drug” used primarily used by “hippies” and minorities, there is a long and rich history, dating back thousands of years, of people from virtually every part of the world using Cannabis for medical, industrial, spiritual, and recreational purposes. Indeed, those who have cultivated, encouraged the cultivation of, and/or used Cannabis include, inter alia, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison, James Monroe, Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama — an assortment of the most intelligent and accomplished statesmen in American history.”
Brilliant, no? A link to the Complaint plus additional information may be located at the Norml link, above.
I applaud the attorneys, Joseph Bondy and David Holland for their awesome efforts and ongoing drive. The tide continues to turn for those who benefit from cannabis.
One day at a time, and we will realize a better America. Never forget: There is ALWAYS room for improvement. Let’s keep on making our America better, stronger, more inclusive, and most of all: More rational.
Happy Green Lunar New Year everyone!
