Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio got on Facebook after the Parkland, Florida school massacre that killed 17 students and faculty. The former GOP presidential nominee blamed the entire tragedy on the FBI. Imagine that.
Jt didn’t go well for Rubio and some of the commenters reminded him of his own wrongdoing and financial (beholding) ties to the National Rifle Association/NRA—the organization that is once again blamed by many Americans for the atrocious number of gun-related deaths and massacres.
But first, a great people’s protest that took place on Friday needs to be mentioned. Three traveling billboards appeared for all to see in Miami, in Florida, around the country, and around the world.
The billboards read:
1. Slaughtered In School
2. And Still No Gun Control?
3. How Come, Marco Rubio?
Twitter is a hot mess over it.
Facebook is all a buzz as well. The response to Rubio’s Facebook post below blaming the FBI and calling the organization a failure has, well—it backfired. He’s being slammed.
Here is Rubio’s post followed by three burning comments—of thousands.
It is inexcusable that the FBI failed to follow protocols and inform the Miami Field Office that people close to the Parkland, FL shooter warned the Bureau over a month ago of his desire to kill, his mental state, and erratic behavior.
The fact that the FBI is investigating this failure is not enough. Both the House and Senate need to immediately initiate their own investigations into the FBI's protocols for ensuring tips from the public about potential killers are followed through. Lawmakers and law enforcement personnel constantly remind the public that 'if you see something, say something.' In this tragic case, people close to the shooter said something, and our system utterly failed the families of seventeen innocent souls.
The first comment right out of the bag shows no mercy.
Michele: No. YOU have failed the citizens of your state, and your country. Taking over $3M from the NRA is more important to you than lives. Save your thoughts and prayers and don't, for a minute, think that we don't all know that your finger-pointing at the FBI is anything more than a desperate attempt to deflect the attention from your own selfishness. No person needs assault-style weapons. I'd like you, and the other senators who continue to accept funds form the NRA , to explain to the grieving family members exactly how lining your pockets is more important than the lives of their precious children. Elections are coming, the clock is ticking.
They like to mention the money he received from the NRA. It’s all out there now, Marco.
Brandon: Stop throwing the blame around Marco. The fact is if you didn’t enable mentally unstable 19 year olds to purchase AR-15s, then we wouldn’t have this tragedy. Hope that $3.3 million you received from the NRA was worth the blood from these kids and those at Pulse.
The word “fail” is used frequently throughout the comments. Here’s an example.
Alona Naomi You have also failed! You fail to take the NRA out of your back pocket. You are a failure to society and your children by allowing this to continue. Be a man and a good politician, this country needs one. Stand up for gun control. Stand up for something instead of pointing fingers and blame. You are just as much to blame. I'm sure you will hear this message and more from the Douglas HS families who have lost their children due to your failure to enforce gun control. How can you sleep at night? Shame on you.
It goes on, and on, and on. Many people are pretty sick of Rubio. May the wave of their anger travel to each and every lawmaker who takes money from the NRA and/or refuses to take action to prevent more sensless and deadly shootings/massacres.
